Global IECEx certification for repair and maintenance

Collaboration in the world of explosion safety is all about trust and continuous improvement. Our partner, ExNB has recently reached an important new milestone: together with their recently acquired subsidiary ExVA (former BKI), they are now an official IECEx Certification Body for facilities providing inspection, repair, and maintenance services. What does this mean for 123ATEX.eu and our mutual clients?

Global reach

Although ATEX and IECEx are based on more or less identical standards, the legal scope is crucial. While ATEX only covers the EU, IECEx is a globally recognized scheme. This opens doors to markets in the Middle East, India, Malaysia, Singapore, China, Australia, and New Zealand.

Safety above all

The greatest risk when repairing Ex equipment without proper certification is nothing less than an explosion. If a repair neglects the scope of Ex regulations, a potential ignition source can arise. In many countries, both inside and outside the EU, it is therefore legally required that repairs be carried out exclusively by an Ex-certified workshop. ISO 9001 is by no means sufficient here. The consequences of non-compliant repairs are significant: beyond the loss of warranty and severe safety risks, end-users in some countries may even face criminal prosecution.

The power of the combination

ExNB’s new status offers immediate advantages to our clients. We can now combine ATEX and IECEx assessments and audits into a 2-in-1 package for minimal additional cost. This accreditation covers all protection types, including electrical (such as Ex d, e, i, t, p, n) and non-electrical (Ex h for pumps, fans and blowers).

Where do we expect the biggest impact?

While the hydrogen sector gets a lot of attention, we see the most activity currently in the chemical, oil and gas, and food industries. Although the accreditation is fresh, we see demand from the market rising immediately. Together with ExNB, we are setting a new standard in safety, helping our clients operate compliantly and risk-free worldwide.
